Deleting an installation

Not using a website any more, or want to start fresh with a clean installation? Delete it via Installatron. That removes both the files and the database in one go.

How to delete an installation

  1. First make a backup if you want to keep anything (see Making and restoring backups in Installatron), and download it to your computer.
  2. Open Installatron and go to My Apps.
  3. Click the button with the three lines ≡ next to the installation and choose Delete.
  4. Check the list to make sure it's the right installation: look at the domain, the title and the size.
  5. Tick Yes, I understand that this action cannot be undone and click Delete.

Please note: Deleting is permanent. Everything belonging to that website disappears: the files, the database, the posts and the images. Your domain, your email and your hosting package stay in place. If it does go wrong, you can still restore the website from the daily backups with WebOké Backups (see Can I also do this in My WebOké? WebOké Backups).

After deleting, it's also worth checking My Backups. Installatron says the installation's backups will be removed as well, but in our test a backup we'd made ourselves stayed put. Delete it if you no longer need it, as it takes up space.

Starting fresh with a clean WordPress

  1. Delete the old installation as described above.
  2. Check in File Manager whether the folder is empty (see Opening File Manager: the directories in your package). If there are still files left that weren't part of WordPress, such as your own uploads or an old .htaccess, remove those too.
  3. Install WordPress again (see Installing WordPress).

Disconnecting instead of deleting

Want to keep the website but no longer manage it through Installatron? Choose Detach from the ≡ menu instead. The website stays in place, but Installatron will no longer update it or make backups of it. Keep in mind that you'll need to handle updates yourself from then on. You can import it again later (see Importing an existing website into Installatron).

Can I also do this in Mijn WebOké?

Yes. In the Website Manager, click Admin next to your website and then Delete website. Tick to confirm that you understand it's permanent and click Delete website permanently (see Can I also do this in My WebOké? The Website Manager).
