Making files available offline and sharing them from your phone

The Nextcloud app only downloads a file when you open it. If you want to open a file without an internet connection too, for example on a plane, make it available offline.

The app keeps track of offline files: if one changes in your Nextcloud, the app fetches the new version as soon as you're back online.

Please note: making an entire folder available offline can take up a lot of space on your phone. Only do this for folders you really need on the go.

Sharing from your phone

You share in the app the same way as in the browser (see Sharing with a user from your own Nextcloud and Creating a public link: viewing, editing, password, expiration date and download limit):

  1. Tap the three dots next to the file or folder and choose Share.
  2. Type a name to share with someone from your own Nextcloud, or create a public link.
  3. For the link, set the permissions, and optionally a password and expiry date.
  4. Copy the link or send it directly via WhatsApp, Signal, your email or another app.

Tip: want to send just the file itself, not a link? Then choose the send option from the three dots (on Android Send/share). The file is then downloaded and handed to the app of your choice.

Uploading something from another app

In almost any app (Photos, your email app, WhatsApp), you can use the share button to send a file to Nextcloud. In the share menu, choose Nextcloud and then the folder you want it to go into.

In your phone's browser

You can also do this without the app. Log in to your Nextcloud in your phone's browser, tap the three dots next to a file (1) and choose Sharing options (2) or Download.
