How do I add a Positive SSL certificate?

The description below is intended for the Positive SSL certificates you can buy from us, but it works for any certificate. In that case, simply leave out the part about the CA certificate.

Entering a Positive SSL certificate in DirectAdmin

  1. Log in to the control panel for the domain in question
  2. Choose SSL Certificates.
  3. Tick: Paste a pre-generated certificate and key
  4. Copy and paste the private key into the field. It starts with -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY----- and ends with -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
  5. Copy and paste the certificate into the same field below the private key. It starts with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and ends with -----END CERTIFICATE-----
  6. Click Save
  7. In the control panel, choose SSL Certificates again
  8. At the bottom, click Click Here to paste a CA Root Certificate
  9. Tick this: Use a CA cert.
  10. Copy the CA certificate shown at the bottom of this article and paste it into DirectAdmin.
  11. Click Save
  12. The certificate is now active and, depending on caching etc., should work within a few hours.
  13. Go to the DirectAdmin main menu and choose Domain Setup
  14. Click the domain name
  15. Secure SSL should be ticked
  16. Tick this: Use a symbolic link from private_html to public_html (this makes your entire site reachable via https)

Entering a Positive SSL certificate in SolidCP

  1. On your own PC, create a text file locally named, for example, certificaat.key and open it in a text editor
  2. Copy and paste the private key into this text file. It starts with -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY----- and ends with -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
  3. Copy and paste the certificate into a new text file named certificaat.cer. It starts with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and ends with -----END CERTIFICATE-----
  4. Save the text files.
  5. From step 6 onwards things can get a bit complex; you can also create a ticket asking us to add the certificate for you.
  6. Run locally on your PC: openssl pkcs12 -in certificaat.crt -inkey certificaat.key -export -out certificaat.pfx
  7. Log in to the control panel for the domain in question
  8. Choose Websites
  9. Click the website that has its own dedicated IP address
  10. Open the SSL tab on the far right
  11. Click Browse, choose the file you created and click OK.
  12. For PFX password, enter the password created in step 6, then click Install Certificate
